Fifty Edges of Girlie

“Why not?”  I refer to Ms. James’ Fifty Shades Trilogy of course. Is it still all the rage ’round the water cooler?  No? Really? Well, I suppose the “outrage” will find new life once filming begins.  What was the fuss about?  I’m finding it a bit on the Harlequin Romancey side, but an entertaining enough read (think vacation at the beach kinda reading.)

In Brevard County,  just south of where I live,  there was such an uproar that the first book in the trilogy was pulled from local libraries.  Not just pulled from one library.  All of them.  And then they were returned.  The poor folks  in Orange County on the other hand, never had a chance.  The libraries there didn’t purchase the book to begin with and as far as I know still haven’t.  Attn: PPEA! (Pseudo-Porn Enforcement Agency) Possible book smuggling ‘cross county lines….

Volusia County, where I live, purchased 13 copies with which to share among it’s various libraries.  After a friend’s recommendation, I went to my library and looked for it.  Not on the shelf.  Geez.  So I went online and put in my reservation.  I have to admit I was shocked to learn that I was 494th on the reserve list.  “Um, did someone insert a 9 by accident?”  Given that readers are alotted 2 weeks for new releases, that would mean that I would get a call that the book was in for me to pick up in……how many years?!  LOL  This, 2 months after all the hype.  But good for Ms. James.  Nothing like a little controversy to boost sales, get you a movie deal and provide a little financial security.

Fifty Edges of Girlie?  Haven’t figured all of them out yet but when I do, I can assure you, I’ll be the one holding the crop:)  The pic below?  It hangs on the wall directly above my computer screen.  It spoke to me the very first time I saw it.  Even now, faded and awash in it’s own shades of grey, it reminds me of who and what I am….

    1. I hate to disappoint you Lenn, but the picture is not of me. Honestly, I would love to be able to take credit for being both subject and artist but it belongs to someone else.
      Powerful isn’t it?
