No Place Like Home

Good morning on this, the first day of not daylight savings time! I do not look forward to the sun setting today at 5:07 pm however! we have only 49  more days before the days start getting longer! You don’t have to tell me. I know. Don’t worry about 49 days from now. “Worry” about today. Today is what matters.

I don’t want to rush this post and yet I feel as if I should. I don’t want to languish on how to “best” say anything. How to phrase a sentence “better”. Hell.  Just want to write what I’m feeling. Except I’m not entirely sure of that these days. But you know what? This post? It’s not about me. Not really. It’s about you. It’s about being thankful. It’s about life and death and gifts. It’s about “seeing”. It’s about “doing”.

No clever listing. Simple, straight forward #’s. The order of which implies no level of priority of importance/significance. Thankfuls are thankfuls. Plain and simple. Powerful.

1) The condolences sent to me last week. I’m not overly adept at expressing my thanks during times of sadness. I tend to be a bit awkward dealing with “extreme” emotion. Thanks to all who came to the Edge and left me words of encouragement and commiseration.

2) Thankful the weather held last Wednesday. Funerals on a rainy day are the pits.

3) Gifts. Imo, there are gifts bestowed when a person close to us dies. Not monetary, not physical. There are gifts of renewal, insight, appreciation and generosity. There are gifts of opportunity and redemption. The duality of death is that it is also a celebration of life.

4) Family. In whatever form it takes.

5) Music and film and books/writing. The 3 primary sources of catharsis, creativity, expression and escape.

6) “Aunt Denise”.  As in 2nd generation. Children of the children. Special.

7) Lizzie for this bloghop. For an ever widening circle of community.

8) Steady employment. I say this even knowing I will be spending today in the office.

9) A place to stay while I find a place to live.

10) the Wakefield Doctrine. An invaluable life tool and resource.

Frist, my friend, but a quiet, gentle one. I hope work goes well for you today, and I’m glad you got this post out. It needs to be entirely no ‘better’ than it is. It conveys everything it needs to.

I’m glad the weather held and that you were able to see those gifts, and that there are small children who hold you so dear. That’s very special indeed.

    *hugs*

You are Frist, Lizzie. And so glad that you are:)
Work was stupid lol. As in, it just can’t be simple when you need it to be. But I did put a little dent in the mountain.
You know, I did need to write a post and was a bit worried about what I would write. I didn’t dwell on it, just let it come.
The gifts are always around, just need to be able to see them more often.
The best one was to learn just how special I have become to some small humans. Works out well since they have become quite dear to me:)

Thank you lots for the virtual hugs. I’ll take them anyway I can! Consider this ***** a reciprocal hug:)

Simple; to the point; and well said. Thinking of you and yours; glad you find – and have found Lizzi’s hop; glad I found your blog. Yes to family; to weather holding; and the healing and consoling power of music and writing.

Very well said. Especially number three. Without death there is no life without life there is no death. We have to remember its a circle.

Thank you FB. And I agree with you. It is a circle and we should all remember that.

Saw this post and then went back and looked to see what was up. So sorry sweet friend! Loss, in every sense of the word, sucks. We can talk all about the circle of life as much as we want, but still, there’s nothing that makes that raw emotion feel any better except maybe the passage of time.

Sending you so many hugs. Haven’t been calling into the Doctrine partly because I’m always buzzing during the week and literally collapse on the couch…to do more work on the weekends.

But, I’ll see you very soon in a month! Well, online, that is.

Love your heart-felt thoughts and just want to HUG you!

Thank you Cyndi:) So true. Time is the only thing that can take the edge off of pain and loss. It may not alleviate it completely, but it can certainly dull it. My sincere hope is that my sister can reach that state sooner than later. Her’s is a journey that is very long.

Man, is that why I’m feeling a bit better today?:) No worries. You call in when your school work is finished. Have been thinking of you often as the weeks go by and December looms closer. I’m sending all sorts of energy for that last sprint to the finish line.

Was happy to see that you posted yesterday and will make the trip over very soon. In the meantime – study, study, study!

You have an eloquent and simple way of phrasing complex concepts Kristi. (so says the clark to the roger lol) I base this not only on your comment here but on (your) comments written at your own blog and at the Doctrine.
      Thank you:)

I wish I could word things like Kristi does. I’ll just say “What she said” and add that funerals always make me feel sorry for myself, and I have to snap myself out of it and remember the celebration part. I’m glad you managed to find so many things to put on your thankfuls list. It really does help to make a conscious effort to find thankfuls when you aren’t sure there are any, doesn’t it?

When you’re ready for at least a little snicker (or chuckle, so to speak), you can watch this little clip from the Mary Tyler Moore show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmBK5GslDaQ
