Wait! Me! Pick Me, Girlie!!

But what do I do? What do I write? You’d think I’d never done this before. Ya know, write a post. At my blog. Yeah, that’s right. I have a blog. It’s called GirlieOnTheEdge and I have been for oh, so very long…

So what’s been happening? A lot! That much I’ve garnered from my whirlwhind scans of the ‘net and the FB. I’ve stopped occaisionally to read but very little. Why? What an excellent question! I offer no excuses for I do not believe in them. I do, however, accept that sometimes there are circumstances.

Are there any to support my lack of involvement in this, my other life? My irl life? Why….no. I didn’t think so. First up. Thanks to my friend, the inimitable Lizzi Lewis!

1 is the lonliest number. 2 Mondays ago, I checked my P.O.Box. There, within the dark, narrow receptacle, lay a key. The key tag said there was a package in Box 6. I was puzzled. ? And then I remembered! I eagerly opened the box and there! a shrink wrapped package that, sure’ nuff, felt like a book! and who doesn’t get excited over the prospect of receiving a book?! Thank you Lizzi for being you. For thinking of me.  For sending me Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. Just becuase 😀

1x bitten, 2x shy. Clarity and revelation. You would think this to be item number 2 when in fact, I claim by right of SBOR/BOSR (rule # escapes me now. Zoe? help?), this to be items 2 and 3. I’m grateful, most of the time, for those sunbursts of clarity as to what life really is. While I’m immensely, please don’t take it away, thankful to still be breathing, in good health (as far as I know today), thankful for knowing all of you, thankful to be aware of opportunity, I am also hypo-grateful for the revelation part. Sometimes I think the 7 4 Horsemen enjoy showing me the “here’s how it could have been, should have been, look what you’ve got now Girlie, good job. But what it is, is all that it is, and sometimes, the big reveal is not very palatable . Objectively, seeing behind the curtain is a good thing. But in all the ways we know to be more “human”, it’s a fucking bad thing. (yo, I’m a clark). And so, at the end of this little self-indulgent, sure I’ll take a little cheese with that, outburst is the knowledge that I’m not alone. That and the fact that, with a little practice, I can stem the tide of negativity (and self indulgence), swim against that tide, and find my way back to the shore of sanity. (Good thing I learned to swim at an early age, eh? lol)

4/20. No! Not anymore lol. But I could tell you of a tradition observed every Friday at noon on the quadrangle of the University of Rhode Island (when I attended). The thanks? For laptop and access to the internet! The amazing vehicle by which anything and everything to know, read, listen to and watch, is at my very fingertips! Yay!!!!!!!!

5Side Note. My wordpress doesn’t allow comments when you hover over links. It hasn’t for a long time. I miss that. Suffice it to say, I’ve often seen the triple 5’s. Mostly in the form of time. 5:55. Alot. Do I believe in the Angel stuff and numerology? Hey, I’m a clark, I can believe in anything 🙂 Who wouldn’t be thankful for that!

Six. Thanks be to/for the Cat.

7. the Wakefield Doctrine. A most helpful life tool.

8. Warm weather! Finally. A couple of weeks ago I put away all of my winter sweaters. I remember it was a Sunday. Unbelievably, the next day I had to pull one out of the box. Then another….and another! Let me tell you what – I started paying attention to the weather forecast a little more closely after that. lol  Happily I can report that today our temperatures will be darn close to 80. It appears Spring has arrived for good 🙂 The trees are rapidly budding, flowers appear to have more company….nice.

9 in the Pocket. Sorry to say, lunchtime billiards have yet to materilize but I have slowly (real slow) started back to lunchtime walks. Good to get outside in the middle of the work day.

10. I woke up. That’s always a good start to the day and always I am thankful for another opportunity. In spite of all that my mind would tell me, in spite of the battle between what is and what was and what never will be, I still have an opportunity to be better, do better, help someone else find the better.

Enjoy the day. It’s about this day. This moment. It’s about choice...

  1. Sweet Denise – I love, love your list of thankfuls. Can’t believe I might be “frist” here by the time I finish this comment. Me being a clark and nearly always on the “cold,” I still have my sweaters out and even on this morning. Hehe. I think I’ll go get another cup of tea.
I’m still fascinated by this numbers thing. I can’t wait to look into it even more.
I’m hoping you’re having a fine morning this morning. I should…like…think about joining this blog hop this weekend. Given that I really have the writing bug. 🙂 🙂

    1. Thank you Cyndi and yes! You are FRIST:)
I know exactly what you mean. I haven’t put all of my winter stuff away just yet..but I’m close lol
You have been on a roll. I can’t keep up! I’m glad you’re writing about meditation. I used to do a short little kind of “meditation” when I would do my morning stretches and include deep breathing. You’ve inspired me to try a more “formal” approach to meditation 😀
Likewise, I hope you are enjoying your morning as well. I’ll look for your TToT this weekend 🙂

  2. This has been the most fickle spring I can remember in ages. Every time I think the cold is gone a blast of frigid air slams right into me! Today we planted a lot of flowers so-by golly-it better be spring!

    1. I agree May! It’s been the weirdest weather for a couple of months everywhere it seems.
Yay! I love when weather allows for planting flowers! Right now, here in northern Virginia we’re seeing a lot of flowers and some flowering bushes. But the trees are a little slow 😀 Except today, while driving down Braddock road which is a canopy of trees, I noticed they were all a lot fuller than even a week ago. A good sign for sure.
Enjoy May! I think Spring has finally arrived 🙂

I love your #10, and it reminded me of a recent talk by Jeffrey R. Holland. He said, “With the gift of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the strength of heaven to help us, we can improve, and the great thing about the gospel is we get credit for trying, even if we don’t always succeed.

“When there was a controversy in the early Church regarding who was entitled to heaven’s blessings and who wasn’t, the Lord declared to the Prophet Joseph Smith, “Verily I say unto you, [the gifts of God] are given for the benefit of those who love me and keep … my commandments, and [for them] that seeketh so to do.” Boy, aren’t we all thankful for that added provision “and … seeketh so to do”! That has been a lifesaver because sometimes that is all we can offer! We take some solace in the fact that if God were to reward only the perfectly faithful, He wouldn’t have much of a distribution list.

“Please remember tomorrow, and all the days after that, that the Lord blesses those who want to improve, who accept the need for commandments and try to keep them, who cherish Christlike virtues and strive to the best of their ability to acquire them. If you stumble in that pursuit, so does everyone; the Savior is there to help you keep going.”

We just keep plugging along, and as you said, we can choose how we approach each day.

    1. Then I gotta tell you Kristi, I’ve accumulated a lot of credits lol.
      Thank you for sharing 🙂

      No. No He would not!
I’m thankful that, while my faith has faltered at times, it still sustains me in all my imperfection.

    1. Thank you Ivy! There’s been a HUGE struggle going on with the writing thing. I think you can relate 😀 Except, having said that, you have been writing way more than I even through your “writer’s block”!
🙂 Feels good to be missed 🙂 And it’s funny you say that. In this quagmire of non-writing, non-reading, what the hell is happening mode of late, I have so missed you and everyone I always look forward to reading! I know you guys are out there continually writing and my new angst has been “how will I ever catch up? and what have I been missing!?”
Wait! It isn’t all about you??! LOL *wink, wink*
#5 – In my dashboard, when I would link to someone, there was a field that I could write a description of the link. Now, it only references the word that is linked. Unless of course, amidst all the changes to wordpress these last years I’ve become blind and they simply modfied the procedure for doing that. Tech whiz, I am not!

Funny, I used to consider 5 a “lucky” number except for no reason I could think of lol However, when I did a quick reference, seems it is.
Glad it’s your lucky number Michelle. Hope you have been well 🙂

    1. And you too Lisa! It has been way to long since I’ve “socialized” with anyone 🙂 I’m going to try and get back to a more “normal” read/interact/checkuponallmyfriends/noIdidn’tfall off the side of the earth… I’ve missed everyone!

Thanks, Lisa. The book is great. You would like it for sure, what with the Rottens and all 😀

#2. Hmm…I suppose it reads a bit cryptically but that’s ok. I kind of can’t help it at times. I feel if readers can pull anything helpful from words I write, that’s a good thing. And if you like it, even not knowing why, that is a good thing too 🙂

  5. “slowly back to” is AWESOME, especially when you’ve lost impetus. I’m in that place too.

And BLESS YOUR BOOTS for including me as a grat item. I do ❤ you big, my friend, and one of the very few down-sides to my wonderful news this week is that I won't be living close to you, and won't be able to see you as often as I'd hoped. *sigh*

On the plus side (taking a leaf from your book) ROAD TRIP!

Keep the winter woolies out for a while yet. Don't trust that Mother Nature bitch ONE INCH! #WeHadSnowToday

    1. Then you know what I’m talkin’ about 🙂

But of course Lizzi! I ❤ you too. Yeah, and about that venue change! See! See! I was just telling Lisa I’m trying to get back to a more “normal” presence out there. Right now I kind of scan the FB but I’ve caught all sorts of stuff going on that I had no idea! Like you’re not coming to Northern VA but going to Oklahoma! What in the world did I miss? And more importantly, when??
I also was late to find out that Dyanne’s Ruby has cancer. My heart broke for Dyanne. Ruby is special. I also didn’t know until the last minute that Lisa was doing Listen to Your Mother. I must, absolutely must get life in order!

I must know of this ROAD TRIP. All the details, when etc. I have to be honest, I’m disappointed you won’t be living in VA but supremely happy that you are embarking on this adventure. Wow 😀
