Ten is the Number of Thankfuls. +

Hey! It’s stupidly late, 9:37 pm, to be opening up the ‘top to write a 6 Sentence Story that should already be “running”. But lately, I can’t say I’ve been on top of the writing thing.

I was hugely excited when Zoe posted the entire month of 6 Sentence Story cue words figuring I had a huge advantage knowing the words so far in advance. No excuse for not writing a story each week. Right?! Right?! Am I right?!

And you wanna know something? When I read the 4 cue words, I thought to myself, “ye-e-sss! these are good words. I can write a story for each one. won’t that be a great comeback!” So much for the comeback. Maybe, after awhile, you don’t get any comebacks.

Ahem….you can guess the date of that draft, eh? In my own words, I tell myself! that after awhile there are no comebacks. So here I am, for better or for worse, participating (for better or for worse) in Josie’s Ten Things of Thankful bloghop. (ya started a good thing Lizzi).

Nothing like death to help re-align one’s priorities, sharpen one’s perspective. It was with sadness I attended the viewing and service of a friend’s mom this past week. I am thankful to have been among the many who had come to pay their respects and lend their support. The residuary thankful, a reinforcement and reminder that life is way too short.

Thanks be that the root canal I underwent went…well! Can’t believe that I am saying this but it was surprisingly painless. Unless you take into consideration the jokes told by my endontist. While I appreciated his attempt to make it a comfortable experience, he had a rather unfair advantage 🙂 The residuary thankful, I only have to go back to my regular dentist for a filling. Not a crown. Except I’m not quite sure how that came about….mine is not to question why? Except that I will lol. I’m a clark.

Speaking of…I am thankful always for the Wakefield Doctrine. It is by far, in my humble opinion, the most efficacious life tool ever disseminated. Also known as, beginning as, “the theory of clarks, scotts and rogers”, it has helped me navigate the social network of life. As an “outsider“, I was often at a total loss as to why people behaved as they did (in particular situations). Today, having the benefit of being able to identify a person’s worldview, ie how they relate themselves to the world, I have a tremendous advantage. The residuary thankful, I am more confident interacting with people, more relaxed in social situations.

Home and Heart. I’m thankful for this most pleasant glimpse into the lives of very enjoyable characters. Characters whose origins came out of Blogdominion. The residuary thankful is witnessing the power of practice. Practice makes perfect, isn’t that what they say? 😀

I am thankful for faith. The ability to believe in the face of “odds against”. Is that not the nature of faith? The residuary thankful is that I will not ever truly give up. Faith may be considered by some a rationalization, denial of reality. I choose to believe that to believe, is to never give up.

I am grateful to have found a Honda Dealership whose service department is open on weekends! and whose service, if I am to judge on my 1 and only recent experience, was excellent. The residuary benefit is, should anything more be needed for my “legacy car”, I have a place to take her that I feel confident will do right by her 🙂

Wow. I’m up to #7 and still going, lol. Many of you are familiar with one Cynthia Calhoun. Author, artist, educator, activist. She recently posted a guided meditation at her new site Intuitive and Spiritual. I’ve got to say, Ms. Sageleaf is a natural for guided meditation. Her voice is soothing, relaxing. I’m hoping she produces more guided meditations for clearly she has the knack! The residuary thankful is that I have a little more motivation to make sure that each day, I try to “meditate”, communicate in silence, my intentions for the day.

I give many thanks for the roof over my head, the food I eat (doesn’t matter if I eat half a box of Froot Loops for dinner lol), transportation, a good job. The residuary thankful here? Endless.

I will never, ever stop being thankful for music. It is the lifeblood, it is self exression, it is catharsis, it is motivation. It is all things. Residuary thankful for music is that it has been with me when there has been no one, been with me when I am with others, it is eternal.

No! No way am I at the 10th thankful. No, it doesn’t have to end at 10 but if I am to adhere to the rules (excepting the option to invoke SBOR/BOSR 1.3) then I will conclude with the thankful for having awakened another day. The residuary thankful, as you will all guess, is yet one more opportunity to get it right.

I’m just grateful we both make it to the forum periodically. I listened to Cyndi s meditation last week. I completely agree with your assessment. And WHAT!!!! A pain free root canal???

I’m with you on that one 🙂
That’s not to say there was not a little discomfort. Took me a couple of minutes to get used to swallowing with the dam in my mouth. lol
The only pain was the shots for novacaine and testing it was enough 😀

Delighted to discover that you’ve come to join us this week, and what a fabulous list of thankfuls you’ve put together! I am loving the residuary thankfuls which in effect double the effect! And yes, in anything I have a part of people always get comebacks, because just as you noted in your tenth thankful, the point is to keep trying to do the things for our life that makes it feel good, and I believe the TToT is surely one of those!

The death of someone we know, or the family member of someone we know, surely does bring us up short, it reminds us of our mortality and the vital importance of living in the moment and making it count. It also gives us the opportunity to just be there for someone who is mourning a loss. Presence means everything at these times.

I’ve been fortunate to also have good experiences with root canals in the past, not that I would seek one out for pleasure, but I am so glad yours went smoothly, and you can get by with just a filling? Wonderful! It is a blessed relief to erradicate tooth pain/issues and the anxiety that always accompanies it.

The Wakefield Doctrine has surely made a difference in your comprehending and relating to others, a definite win-win for you and for them! Still attempting to get started on Home and Heart, and I am hoping the wrap up of the A-Z will give me time. It sounds like something I’d really enjoy reading, so I’m going to make it happen this time!

I am very much in sync with your feelings about faith. It’s essential to me now, though at one time it wasn’t. If I’m wrong and misled, then so be it, for me it makes all the difference in how I approach life and how I find peace. Faith is something we have to arrive at on our own, and I am always happy when someone else arrives there.

Music is the most powerful force in the universe second only to love I believe. It can bring us down, lift us up, and sail us through dark times. It captures our memories and replays them for us. And… it gives us those annoying earworms of songs we sometimes wish we’d never heard the first time! Sometimes I’m amazed at what plays in my head… the earworms I mean, not denying that it’s also the playground for all kinds of strange creatures! 😉

Thank you so much for returning to TToT today, you are always, always welcome! Have a blessed week ahead!

Thank you Josie. It just kind of felt “right” today to write a 10 Things:) Ah, nicely put! the doubling up effect.
You make an excellent point, and remind me, that it is about being present. It surely is all about presence.
You know, I can’t figure it out. The dentist ground down my tooth, fitted me with a temporary crown. So how is it that a filling is going to take care of the other half of my tooth?! Guess I’ll find out on the 23rd.
I think you would enjoy Home and Heart. I hope you are able to begin reading it soon. One more letter to go! Z stands for the end, right? 😀
Speaking of earworms…I’ve had them all darned week! Pesky buggers to get rid of lol
I’m glad to participate this week Josie. Thanks so much for hosting.
You too have a blessed and most excellent week !

An excellent list of thankful things, and i especially agree about the music. Also, you get as many chances as you want to go back to writing the 6 again, as long as you are still living.

I too don’t think I could survive without music. There are certain albums which I can associate with certain times in my life, because they’ve got me through them 🙂

I know exactly what you mean. And when you hear them – albums, songs (again), you feel the intensity of those times as vividly/intensely even though years perhaps have passed.
Music is one of those “resources” we can’t do without.
Thank you for stopping by 🙂

So glad to see you back, Denise. I am about to hop over to Cynthia’s blog and listen to her meditation. Life is short and we need to do what we want to and can do, I think. Including eating fruit loop cereal for dinner. I’m so glad to be reading Clark’s third serial novel. See you here or there. We’ll always have Paris (Ocean City, NJ)

Thank you Val. Feels good to “be back”.
Life is short and the older I get the more cognizant I am of time’s passage. I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiment – it’s now or never.
Ah, yes the Fruit Loops. Funny, the next night after coming back from the gym, all I ate were animal crackers yet the next morning I cooked a small steak for breakfast lol. Great being an adult, huh 😀
Yes, I’ll see out and about and yes, we will always have Paris 🙂 🙂

    good TToT
as expensive as they can be, dealer service is totally the answer to keeping a car running for the maximum time.
gotta love the reversal of experience against expectation. non? gotta make me wonder what other assumptions I’m making without testing against reality.
Cynthia is a credit to our people.

A pain free root canal??? What even is that? My one and only root canal was a horrible horrible experience. I was VERY thankful that I did not need one recently and ended up with only a crown – opposite of your thing. How odd, but I’m not asking questions. It doesn’t hurt. I don’t need a root canal. I’m good.
I had a month of failed attempts at TToT posts – finally got one in this week. Good to see you here, too.
I’m completely with you on the faith thing – you said it perfectly. It isn’t easy to believe, to rely on that, but I find that doing so absolutely makes a difference. So to that I’ll say…yeah. Absolutely.

Yes! No kidding. It was! Oh, man, I’m so sorry you had such a bad experience, Lisa. May you NEVER need another!
I’m not sure how now, all I need is a filling? Think I’ll call my dentist tomorrow:D
Yay! Welcome back to the TToT!
      Thanks.
So glad you stopped by. Its always nice to hear from you 🙂

Ack! Sorry I didn’t see this earlier. But, sweet friend, I always enjoy your lovely posts! First, sending love and light to you regarding that funeral. Tough stuff. :/ Second, root canal!? YIKES! I hope you’re mending okay! I’m thankful for the Doctrine, too. I often happily recall that night I first called in and smile because it was when I met you! So, so glad. 🙂 I’m glad for Lizzie for starting the hop, and though I don’t participate these days (it’s all I can do right now to do ONE post a week…), I’m still grateful for the bright stars who all participate. And THANK YOU – so grateful – for the sweet shout-out. I was pleasantly surprised at all the folks who gave me feedback about that guided meditation. I have resolved to create at least one new one a month. Furthermore, I got an email from the Youtube about creating better social change videos as they noticed I’m doing that. Huh, right? The little voice inside my head tells me I’m on the right track. Hehe.
Sending you hugs…and now…to start the VERY last day of the after school program…possibly forever. Eep! (There’s a story there. Will try to call in on Saturday, though I’m not sure, yet…going on a long hike with some family friends…will have to see…)

No worries Cyndi. Thank you 🙂
I was very sad for my friend but also glad that her mom passed peacefully as she was suffering.
Hopefully, that was my first and last root canal!!
Me too! I will never forget that night either. I’m so very glad you called in that night 😀
You really do have a great voice and cadence for guided meditation. Keep it up. And listen to that little voice…and your body. Let your body guide you.
Hugs to you too my friend. Today was the last day? Oh, I know there’s a story. I was hoping you were going to call in this Saturday. I had read in one of your comments where you said the grant was not renewed. I’m sorry to hear that.
If you don’t call in, we’ll catch you the following week:) Have fun on the family hike!

I’m so sorry to hear of the passing of your Mom’s friend. There is nothing like death to remind of us of the importance of how we live and how short this life really is in the grand scheme of things.
I know you must be very glad to have that root canal over and done with.
I’m thankful for faith also. It would be so hard to face life’s challenges without it.
There are a lot of choices out there in “music land” and depending on what we choose to listen to, it can lift us up or bring us down. Sometimes when I am switching stations in the car, I quickly go on to the next station if the music lyrics or even the tune isn’t uplifting. I do think that there are times when a person is feeling sad, that hearing a mellow piece of music or some of the classical pieces can be very consoling.
How nice that you were able to find a car service department that is open on the weekends.

Thank you Pat. As awful as it sounds, I feel that it was a blessing her mom passed. She was suffering and in turn her family suffered with her. She is at peace now.
Oh yeah, dental procedures are so not enjoyable lol.
For sure. I’ll do the same thing, switching until I hear just that right song 🙂 I agree. There is some classical music that, while “dark”, can be very soothing. Classical music is all encompassing.
Yes! Now it’s not such an ordeal to fit it into the work week 😀
