Walking the Shores of Forever. It’s a 6.

The morning’s trip to the Dr.’s office had not gone well, the news not… good.

Silenced by the somber atmosphere that permeated the confines of the small examining room soon after their arrival, neither was much in the mood to return home and so, each reading the other’s mind, opted for a side trip to the beach, no place better to contemplate the serious matter put before them.

Being wintertime, it was as off season as you could get, and the 2 friends were able to enjoy a couple of solitary sun draped hours walking and frolicking (as if at their age you could call it “frolicking“) along the sandy stretch of New England coastline.

As the sun gracefully made its descent towards the azure/pink/purple of the horizon, they took their cue and reluctantly made their way towards the parking lot, silence sealing the moment, one more treasure collected.

Only a 10 minute drive home, wishful thoughts made it seem longer, and while the comfort that awaited them always brought a smile to their faces, they tried valiantly to delay the inevitable.

The small cottage came into view; gravel driveway lined by a flower garden long gone dormant, this was their buoy in oceans of uncertainty; turning off the engine she looked over to the passenger side seat, patient brown eyes staring into hers… “yes boy, we’re home now, let’s go get warm…
