Canaries and such. It’s a 6.

Been awhile since we’ve heard from our aspiring actor. Admitting to being unprepared for the world of “committed relationships”, nowadays, he’s not quite sure who he’s dealing with and may soon discover his world is not as big as it could be….

When the atmosphere is less than perfect” (Rowena had a knack for quoting song lyrics; her timing and delivery always impressive).

While sleep slipped out the backdoor of my brain, I lay in bed trying unsuccessfully to figure out what had happened earlier that night, and found myself remembering that was one of the things that first impressed me about her. My friends thought it was cool as shit, but then they weren’t half into music as much as me, if they were, they’d be even more impressed.

We’d left Johnny’s Bar around 11, came back to my place, somehow found ourselves in one of those serious “couple” conversations and, as if I was having an out of body experience, heard myself ask “So what, you want to break up?!” With a straight face covering for the laughter in her eyes, she replied “I never said that”.

Sleep finally arrived to collect and with the decent into oblivion almost complete, came the line that would have made a perfect riposte.. “You’re just like crosstown traffic, so hard to get through to you”.

Oh, yeah. Communication is key but can be a challenge sometimes.
      Thanks, Mimi!

Sleep eludes me most nights. You had me at the first line. Great six.

Thanks, me too. You may be right about that 😀
…Oh, my gosh! Yes! Both lyric and song title. As soon as I saw the name of the band, the Toasters, I remembered them (from the late ’80’s). Tell me it wasn’t that long ago, lol

Reading someone without knowing exactly what they’re thinking can sometimes be totally misconstured.

Agreed and once you focus on the misread, it often involves a great effort to “clear the air” 🙂
