Fateful Footwear? It’s a 6.

Frankie figured it took working seven extra shifts at the Pizza Hut on U.S. 1 in order to have enough to buy them but damn, if they weren’t the coolest; they’d have to help him look cool, even if no one thought he was. Sporting his new ‘Pine Green” Air Jordan’s, Frankie checked himself in the full length mirror hanging on the inside of his bedroom closet door, one last time, then hurriedly headed downstairs determined not to be late for what he hoped would be the first of many dates.

Hurry up, young lady, you don’t want’ to be late, he’ll be here any minute“!

Her mother’s voice, grating like fingernails across a chalkboard, carried upstairs to the second level, while Sarah Lee, Shermer High’s new “it” girl gave herself one last look in the mirror; feeling a little guilty at being irritated by her mom, Sarah remembered it was her mother who picked her up after all the late shifts she worked at the Pizza Hut on Pico – all so she could save enough to buy the coolest shoes on the planet.

The doorbell sounded exactly at 7 (Frankie was nothing if not punctual) and Sarah casually opened the front door – “wow, you look great Sarah, I….I love your shoes”. Glancing down at her new “Pine Green” Air Jordan’s then back at Frankie, she smiled to herself wondering, what are the chances?Image result for pine green

    Fun Six
Enjoyable in the read and, (for me) the considering the ‘how’ of the tale telling. Liked the idea of a story with two parallel narratives* (or whatever is the technical term of doing a story where there are two main characters.)

*well, I guess there could be more than two and still be parallel?

Thanks. Weird how stories “evolve”. Began with the shoes. Then Frankie spoke up. Being Friday night and all, he was bound to be going on a date…
I appreciate your comment, Clark, as it prompted me to research your question – can there be more than two and still be parallel? Apparently, the answer is yes 🙂

Awww this is one to make a person pine for something comparable. Alas, two sweeties do make it right!

What are the chances? Great use of the cue and a nice twist

I wonder if they have discovered that they are both working at Pizza Hut, albeit at different locations. What are the chances?

Oh, they will eventually. Chances are slim, but then, as I said to Paul – just might be fate that brought these two together 🙂
