Welcome to GirlieOnTheEdge and another edition of Six Sentence Stories!
Sitting down to write this post, I brought with me a delightfully large Honeycrisp apple; using a long serrated knife, I sliced it, allowing it to tumble into my favorite bowl. Piercing each slice with the tip of the spear knife and bringing the apple to my mouth, I laughed as my mind went to half remembered movie images of wild and raucous meals at some grand manner in Elizabethan England, drunken men wielding knives as forks. My point? Took me down Google Lane where I learned about Tudor dining, utensils and the origins of “chairman of the board”, “bed and board” and “board games”. The internet. Playground, university, social club. Community. As life pre-pandemic recedes into the shadows of stage left, the internet and it’s community remains a constant. This virtual world. Where those of us accustomed to the real world (in a way our youth will never have opportunity to fully know), meet to share our creative and artistic selves. Once upon a time, meeting in galleries and coffee shops, bookstores and street corners, we have evolved – meeting anywhere, any time on the open prairie of the internet. Creative self expression. It’s what helps us retain sanity. It’s what helps grow us. Keeps us human. 6 sentences. Link them here, tonight through Saturday late, and join us for 3+ days of community and creativity.
