Transmutation. It’s a 6.

She walked this day, as always up hills, down hills, rounding curves, greedily sucking the sun from the sky – reveling in early Spring who’d arrived surreptitiously under cover of night.

Trees, eager to show off buds, did so gradually over the weeks prior, slowly awakening from winter’s slumber, branches evidence new life would soon overshadow winter’s pall.

Pops of color dotted the landscaped buildings and apartment homes – cherry blossom trees and forsythia bushes trumpeting amongst the pines and still dormant oaks, with nary a peep out of the maples they, shy about making an early entrance.

Soon, bolstered by nature’s bold display, peacefulness permeated the air and walking transformed to gliding, transformed to simple standing upon magical moving pavement, an autowalk.

Daring the greater distance, casting caution to the lightest of breezes, she continued until the cawing of the crows announced circumnavigation nearly complete.

Coming upon a newly mulched bed, bordered by berry bushes, barren of companions but for one lone spot of butter cup brightness, a single daffodil stood, head bowed in service.

Very nice last phrase: “a single daffodil stood, head bowed in service”. I can just see that solitary daffodil. It’s dropping flower head I can now see as “bowed in service”.

I can totally see Ruth Gordon in bright yellow, greeting and calling the flowers to life, Harold as a shy Maple marveling and coming to bloom, even as she fades for her own next season.
And yeah, the songs in this film are IMHO, Cat Stevens’ best.

Oh yeah. And I loved the part at the funeral, as she opened her yellow umbrella 😀
Loved the soundtrack and agree, his best.

Another inspiring walk and ode to spring, D 🙂 It really is marvellous watching everything come to life this season. Buttercups and daffodils, the best yellows? Haven’t seen Harold and Maude for a long time, but remember enjoying it.

Thanks, V. Couldn’t help write but write about Spring again, it’s only just newly arrived here. I took a late morning walk today and it was so darned beautiful. btw, loan daffodil is real, lol. This is the 2nd year I’ve noticed it. No one has planted anything around it, none have sprouted up, only the bushes. A huge bed and no other flowers. Kinda cool 🙂 Don’t know why that movie popped into my head but when I saw the funeral segment with Maude and her yellow umbrella among the black and gray, figured this was the one 😉

The language in each of your 6 is beautiful, Denise–it felt at once peaceful and invigorating, if that’s possible. And thanks for “Harold and Maude”…took me back a long ways 🙂

I do not see my reply to you, Ms. Z! I wrote one last night, promise 😉
Many thanks. I too felt peaceful and invigorated the longer I walked. It was such a gorgeous morning.

And quickly, Mimi. It was as if we went from winter to Spring in 24 hours. Suddenly, it was here to stay. No complaints 🙂

I can identify! We had a few “tease” days in the last weeks but this week – it was like the door was blown wide open, no going back, lol
Never hurts to have reminders 🙂
May your Spring arrive promptly, Janet. I have a feeling you’ll know when it has. It’s a body thing.

I love how alllll that description comes round to a solitary daffodil, head bent. Well done.
That movie is the absolute best movie ever. And yes I saw it in a theatre. Several times, they used to play it every summer at The Gaslight.

It is! Oh, man. I would have loved to have seen it on a big screen. What a cool name, “The Gaslight”.
