*woman to events facilitator: “so how do I know when everyone’s shown up? will you hold this room until I figure that out?”
events facilitator: “I’m afraid there’s a time limit on holding this particular venue. you may wish to consider beginning your meeting soon.”

6 hours later:
Sunset, hours away, napped on a plane out of sight giving reign to the sparkle of a thousand round cut diamonds to enter through a massive window and ricochet off the walls of a conference room atop a beachfront resort.
The din of hesitant conversation amongst strangers gave soundtrack to an event borne of spontaneity, spurred by desperation, and coddled by fear yet, not so unpleasant for its potential; soon opportunity raised it’s reticent hand to challenge the default reserve of the gathering’s host.
Back to the window, buoyed by a sapphire ocean beyond, the woman lifted her soft voice to the crowed: “I can see by your puzzled looks you’re wondering why I’ve gathered everyone together; to be honest, I’m not quite sure myself. What’s that?… you, there in the very back…they don’t allow dogs at this resort?…that’s why Seven isn’t here?
Listen, there’s additional seating up front, no need to be shy or hanging out by the door, it is scary not knowing anyone else and I totally get some of you aren’t crazy about a stranger walking up to you, asking you questions but I promise, there’s an upside to this.
Look, we’ve got a decent turnout of people.. there’s Billy, and in the far right corner by the bar is Annaliese, hey, isn’t that Nomad and desperate daughter chatting it up and damn, if it isn’t Aspiring Actor introducing himself to Inspector Wentworth and Sister Ephraim, heck even Veronica showed up, so what say we relax and get to know one another better.”
Wow…a history of sixes, and a little Elvis, too!

Or a convening of characters with potential who, if encouraged by their peers, might reveal a little more about themselves 😉

I like the idea that their conversations could be the start of new stories.

What a beautiful setting for this meeting. As they are introduced and discover they each know something of the woman who has brought them together, I wonder what picture will emerge? 😉 I enjoyed finding out who the charaxters were, Denise. A great take on the prompt.

You are a woman who appreciates the ocean, Jenne 🙂
Indeed! I imagine surprises and discoveries and all manner of questions. Once of course, everyone realized their kinship; let their guards down.
Thank you, Jenne. Glad you enjoyed.

Loved ‘giving reign to the sparkle of a thousand round cut diamonds’. Sounds like your characters rolling through the door (although I suspect some of them are more rough cut). 🙂

Now, this sounds like the start of something rather special. A revisiting and bringing together of characters; a lovely setting but shame that Seven isn’t allowed in.

damn… rehearsal hall full of actors, musicians and seekers-of-the-Meaning
Here’s a request: establish this as a series; decide that, like the mirror dimension*, you as the author-creatress will play with them (or through them or whatever) like a buncha drunk college friends discovering their host’s toy chest.
most excellent movie rendition of Dr. Strange

Marvelous request. I shall confer with those on the “other side” post haste.
The movie rendition was indeed, most excellent.

Love it, D. A conference of characters pulled from previous Sixes (I checked the links and realised I’d read about half of those previously, either from TAM or TVTA). Your idea brought to mind Travels In The Scriptorium by Paul Auster, and even my own pulling-together of certain characters on a cruise ship.
Who is the narrator, I wonder?? 😉
So well done, D, and beautifully descriptive too.

Well, when they don’t or won’t talk to you, you’ve got to figure out some way to get them to do so, right?!
We’ve known each longer than I realize V, so no doubt you have. Thanks for checking them out.
Travels In The Scriptorium is not familiar to me. I shall search the Google to find out more. Why yes, there was a memorable trip aboard a cruise ship.. Hm…I wonder… 😎
Thank you, V.
