…She glanced down at the time on the lower right of the laptop screen: 5:05 am as muffled sounds of conversation and occasional bursts of laughter found their way from around the bar and down the hall to the office, clearly announcing the drum of Port Charlotte she’d left on the table for Nick and Ford almost 2 hours previous had most certainly been replaced by another, followed by who knows what else. Proprietors or not, those two know we’ve got a budget (she made a note to herself: “inventory bar stock, Chris’s book launch this Friday”)
She pushed away from the desk, the chair’s soft leather cradling her body; taking in a deep breath, she exhaled slowly in acknowledgement the day had been long enough; body relaxing, eyes half open, she allowed her gaze to wander the room. The soft glow from the green banker’s light had an affinity for casting delicate shadow in unsuspecting corners of the office giving life to various film and musician promo posters adorning the walls, the optical effect of which was not unpleasant. Wasn’t much of a stretch at this time of night to imagine Humphrey or Tom Hardy, B. B. or Johnny Winter pulling up a chair for an impromptu tête-à-tête.
Cool place this, the Six Sentence Café and Bistro, side street off the mundane, it was an establishment where anything was possible and there was always more to any story…
Awesome imagery. Pulled me right into the story! ✒️

Thank you, Ami!
I did a “walk-on” (Clark’s term) off of Spira’s Six off of Clark’s Six. It was fun 🙂

Daresay, afternoons in the Café are more laid back, though no less colorful for the clientele 😊

Well. How fun was that? It is a very cool place, this Six Sentence Bistro, and getting cooler by the six…

Glad you enjoyed, D. Nice having you as a regular.
Daresay before long, the Six Sentence Café and Bistro will be among the lists of famous cafés and bistros known as haunts of the literati – the Vesuvio, Café de la Paix and Les Deux Magot, The Eagle and Child, Antico Caffè Greco…
Why, we’ll be saying “remember when we knew…” 😁

I just read Clark’s original set-piece, then Spira’s follow-up, and now yours, D. Too cool 😎
The SSC&B is quite the happening joint. Your office scene was easy to picture at 5.05 am, the movie posters, the furnishings, your reflections of the establishment…
Loved: “Proprietors or not, those two know we’ve got a budget!” 😂🤣
Now, if you think Nick and I might have depleted the stocks somewhat, Chris actually got there before us 😁🥂cheers!

That you, V? Where in the h**l you been, boy! (Get over here, let me make sure it’s really you 😎)
Clark and Spira’s Sixes were tough acts to follow but like you say, the SSC&B is a happening joint; they made it easy.
Whoah, wait. What did I hear you say?!
[Typical man, Chris – he’s trying to blame the woman. Better set him straight before Friday, 🤣]

I’m only jealous because Chris got to the booze first.
Man, thanks D, was a tough month away, way harder than the first two Covids we had, but with less death and illness luckily.
I missed you ALL! Love what you’ve been doing at the café, and the walk-on series is just awesome! 😎

(Reading/re-reading Comments and, only then returning for a full read on your Six is fun, if not tinged with a little ringing of distant bells as doors in corridors and locks between wards clang home.)
You and the other Proprietors are flipping the lights and knife-switching the darkness out of hallways previously dark.
To paraphrase the old joke, fiction writers build castles in the sky, truly creative and un-strained authors use them as vacation homes.
good Six.

Well, I have needed a vacation for a really long time…
Thanks 😊

Seconding Clark’s words !
Reading/re reading Sixs and comments, apart from what you know, made me giggle angry laugh; and especially during our times…well, it is priceless.
*sitting next to Ford, jabbing with my elbow his ribs; You had to say that, didn’t you?*
