My God, what had she done!
Admittedly, she’d hesitated when They first approached her about the Conversion, salesmen, slick as a newly iced winter sidewalk, she’d fallen for their graphs and charts; yellow highlighter screaming the most recent advancements in the field.
They made a compelling argument, but for all of it, the slide show, travelogue diaries and fervent testimonials, there was something “off”; nagging at her circuits. Stupid! the canvas of newly Converteds was too tiny a sampling to validate the efficacy of the “WOFEH” (World Order for Enhanced Humanity) program. The program, with its confusing test data and ambiguous field studies, was still in its infancy; insufficient data could not reveal what long term studies would, yet cutting edge tech and the flash of enhanced circuitry was temptation not easily resisted.
Cradling her left arm, pain pushing her towards the precipice of unconsciousness, she couldn’t help wonder…what AI in their right mind would undergo conversion to a life they were never meant to experience – without considering every coin has 2 sides…
Ouch! That would be an AI that didn’t have fully developed feminine wiles to sniff out BS. But maybe she has it now… This is not the end. Excellent, Denise.

Lol. How right you are, Jenne. She now also feels the sting 20/20 provides in hindsight. Thank you!

Under those conditions here are my two cents:
Something very, very interesting is brewing…
Also, have you been training with Ford?
Cause the one – two hooks of your sentences brought to mind Amanda Serrano’s combos, which you don’t see until you’re breathing canvas( see what I did?😆)!
And that’s your impact; you don’t see it coming until it hits you…👏

I see clear as day, my friend, clear as 😁 (she appears to be a most formidable fighter!)
My humble thanks, sir.

During the wee hours of the morning when I’m having an existential crisis, I sometimes think it would be good to be an AI and not worry about such things. In the light of day, I know better and would not want to be an AI. All things considered, I don’t think that being immortal would be a good thing.
I used the prompt to create a poem to include in my forthcoming submission to The Temz Review, so I can’t publish it on my blog. I’ll drop a link to The Temz Review in case you or anyone else would like to submit work to them as well.

We’re allowed, during those hours, to consider that which we know irl hours, we would not seriously entertain. I will say, as you’ll no doubt attest, some darned good writing can come from those in between hours.
Understood. I’m happy the prompt was useful in creating a work for publication.
Thank you for providing the link.

Inspired madness, Denise. ‘ slick as a newly iced winter sidewalk’ is a gem but others abound in screaming yellow highlighter.

fun post
(I might venture that true human-level AI would not be determined by Turing Test alone. The capacity for humor, especially shaggy dog stories would be a better indicator that Eden Experiment had finally been terminated.)

Ah, yes! Humor. An accurate litmus test for sure.

Nice description: “slick as a newly iced winter sidewalk”. Also good suggestion that “cutting edge tech and the flash of enhanced circuitry” is a “temptation”.

Thank you, Frank. We had a nasty little snow storm (began as rain) the first part of the day, so that came pretty easily, lol
It certainly is, isn’t it?

Ah, the seduction of the salesmen… but perhaps there is hope. Perhaps there’s a role for her and other members of WOFEH in the ‘future’ (ref Spira’s comment).

As it was in the beginning, so shall it be.
Wait! Danger Chris Robinson! There very well may be a role for her however, the WOFEH (from this writer’s perspective) is not the philanthropic organization its name implies. (Now keep your finger on the backspace key…delete my last sentence, lol, not my place to “direct” the reader’s interpretation. (gonna blame the last bit on either the pain or the pain meds 😆)

Ah well, I didn’t specify what that role might be… and in any case arrogant little humans should beware, might other forces be at work to protect the planet from them? (not sure where I’m going with this, better stop)

Now that is an interesting idea, Chris.
Stop only if you want to! It’s what we engage in. Creative commerce. The exchange of ideas and inspirations from reading each other’s work. It often puts us on a trail our muse had only an inkling.
Love it 😊

“It’s not easy being AI… can’t be so easy being human too… neither of us really sleep well at night due to our own, unique sets of agonies and waking up at 3 am in a cold sweat. However, those salespeople types (along with debt collectors and certain politicians) always seem to sleep well at night.”

Excellent ‘AI-Sixing’ there, D 😎 I like the ‘2 sides of a coin’ thinking and the slick sales pitching. For me, the piece could also read as a comment on the vaccine programmes since Covid.

Elodie. Wise. They always have and always will.
High praise from the AI maestro himself – thank you, V 😎
I don’t disagree, as it very well could. Therein lies the beauty of creative writing, oui?
