Welcome to GirlieOnTheEdge and Sunday’s prompt word reveal for Six Sentence Stories!
Yes, there is something different about today’s post. There’s a video stand in for the inspirational Writer’s quote. It was sent to me last week as a suggestion to use for today’s post. As someone not averse to coloring outside the lines, I listened and thought, “you know, this is inspirational. Perhaps not to all, but to many of us”. We’re here because we love to write. Six Sentence Stories offers us the opportunity to – and you’ve heard this from me many times before – practice. Our craft. Bonus perks? Reading everyone else, engaging in conversation, commiserating, exploring collaborative works. Let’s face it. You’re at the ‘Edge doing this Six Sentence thing because after all the hair pulling, it’s a heck of a lot of fun! Going to end short as you have a vid to listen to. The invitation stands: write and share with us a story, ( serial or not) poetry, memoir or soc, in the requisite 6 sentences. After that, well, anything can happen. P.S. If you’d like to suggest a written quote by a writer you feel is inspirational, please don’t hesitate to send it to me. Go now. Write.
Rules of the hop:
Write 6 Sentences. No more. No less.
Use the current week’s prompt word.
Link up at Wednesday’s post. Link goes live at 6:00 pm through Saturday late…
Spread the word and put in a good one to your fellow writers 😀
PROMPT WORD: BOOKMARK
I need to BOOKMARK this post. 🙂 Finally, finally getting around to commenting on blogs a little more. I need like 72 hours in the day to do all the things I want to do, including coming here and saying hi!! Happy Sunday my friend!

You make me smile, Cynthia. You know where to find me, always.
Fantastic! Will be good to see you out and about in Commentlandia 😊
Time. Yeah, still working on that for myself. You’ll be the first person I tell if I discover the formula for converting 24hrs into 72hrs in a 24 hour day, lol
Happy Sunday!

It is, Nancy. And Tom O’Bedlam’s reading of it, perfection!
I am happy, as well as humbled, to be messenger for anyone’s words with the power to move a person to tears ❤️

That voice is a gift from The Creator! He gave me chills and reduced me to tears. “Don’t shoot the messenger” definitely applies here! What a great share; we writers should all be humbled! 💕

Unusually for me (he said wryly), I’m out of step with most when it comes to quotes by writers about writing, especially ones like these from Adolf Hitler admirer, Charles Bukowski, that suggest that the only true writers are the ones with some sort of obsessive-compulsive bent.
In my view, good writers exist along an almost infinite spectrum between those with a slim volume from their student days to those who’ve written dozens of books and hundreds of stories.
As just one example, Giuseppe de Lampedusa’s ‘The Leopard’ is a classic of literature; it was the only novel he ever wrote and wasn’t published until he died.
I fear that there are far too many empty writer’s desks littered with books and articles and quotes about writing. For example, what godlike status was bestowed on Stephen King in his crusade to kill the adverb? Fie upon them all, I say, and let readers decide your fate.

I hear what you are saying Doug, and I agree with most of it; especially your last sentence.
Where I differentiate, and that is the beauty of public discourse, is twofold.
First, I believe that the words on the video were not referring to volume of output but to the quality of the condition under said output is attempted.
I am also very reluctant in labeling anyone ( prime example for me being Asperger who is now labeled as a Nazi)…there is always more to the story.
And my argument would say, to anyone willing to hear: if those words were not attributed to CB, would their meaning ring true? Both yes & no should be considered fair answers, as long as they remain irrelevant of the attribution.

Good points, Spira. I simply grow tired of self-appointed literary ‘experts’ (aka parasites) running MFA programs, writing workshops, lit mags where any feedback has to be paid for, writing comps with exorbitant fees etc etc who are killing true diversity in writing voices.
To give a classic lighter example of literary arrogance, I’ve had at least three rejections that have included ‘I really enjoyed your piece personally but I don’t think our readers would’. My standard response is ‘Well, neither of us are ever going to find out now, are we?’ You’ll be shocked to know I’ve never received a reply. 😉

Parasitic and toxic Doug. Same with the “arts” scene. Being not of their inner circles and not willing to play by their rules, I try breaching that 🤬r rogue style. Have I succeeded? Nope. Not yet.
But at least, as the line, from Metamorphosis I recently used, goes:
…and though he greatly failed, even greatly dared.
Cheers.

Hey Nancy. Will you need any assistance on linking your Six on Wednesday?
(I doubt most of the community will read it, if it only remains posted here.)
Good morning to you, too.
