Has it been that many years?” The Woman, canines no longer at her side, stepped forward cautiously, carefully, “this was not how I left this place.” Surveying the bleak landscape, she unconsciously pulled her woolen sweater closed, slowly buttoning every button as icy fingers of a chill began reaching for her bones. “How is this devastation possible after all I accomplished so many years ago?” Feeling as if she was standing in the lobby of a deserted movie house, perpetual Saturday Matinee, film noir, she could feel the despair that consumed this place; her body began to whisper “remember”. Closing her eyes, she rotated her body a full 360 degrees, inhaling deeply…

    Excellent question: “How is this devastation possible after all I accomplished so many years ago?” Well described sense of a once pleasing past that is now unattractive when looking back on it.
