Playing for Change. The movement. Is awesome. From their “About” Page:
Playing For Change is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music. The idea for this project came from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people.” Imo, all of the arts have this potential. Perhaps none having as much impact as literature. Who has not been significantly impacted by an author? Who hasn’t quoted an author at least once in their lives? Stories encompassing all genres, poetry inclusive of all forms, memoirs and essays, speeches and plays… What power lay in words. What comfort felt in words. What joy derived from…words. Enter Six Sentence Stories. Each week on Thursday Eve, we invite you to write and share 6 sentences, link the URL to your “SSS” and surprise, comfort, amaze, delight and frighten us. Consider the ‘Edge your coffee house eclectica. Located on the corner of Anywhere and Everywhere, you never know who you might meet. Doors open at 6. Imagine that 🙂

Welcome to GirlieOnTheEdge and another edition of Six Sentence Stories!
Reasons. No, not the very fine song by Earth Wind and Fire. Rather, the reasons we do what we do. The reasons to get out of bed every day. Drive. No, not the very fine song by R.E.M. Rather, what drives us. To write. To participate. Each of us has a creative streak running through us that pushes and pulls, stretches our hearts and minds, our sense of humor, like melting salt water taffy at the Jersey Shore, insisting we manifest that creativity through written word. Words lined up in an orderly fashion (alright! I won’t mention the very fine song by David Bowie 😆). Our challenge at Six Sentence Stories is to write those words in precisely 6 sentences and then link them here. Capice?

I couldn’t live a week without a private library–indeed, I’d part with all my furniture and squat and sleep on the floor before I’d let go of the 1,500 or so books I possess.”

Welcome to GirlieOnTheEdge and another edition of Six Sentence Stories!
This morning, I drove through semi-diaphanous skirts of fog dotting post post-dawn darkness marveling at the stillness. David Bowie kept me company. Life on Mars? queued… I sang along (not softly) and as I did so, I was overcome by an emotion I quickly realized was gratitude. Such a gift (for me). A reminder we are gifted by innumerable writers, poets, musicians, artists and that all of us have favorites – favorite books, poems, ballets, songs, paintings, etc. Artists sharing with us the manifestation of their creative selves. Here at Six Sentence Stories, we invite all to share in their creative selves by gifting 6 and exactly 6 sentences in the form of story, ballad, poem, lyrics or 6 lines out of a scene from the latest (on not latest) work in progress. Whadya think?
Want to share? 🙂
