Blood on the Ground. It’s a 6.

“… because dear friend, there is more to this story.”

——- ******* ——- ******* ——-

Late fall early evening, having slipped into her little black dress, seductively wrapped her charm around the two men as they exited the comfort of the Juke Box Diner’s ambient lighting.

“Luca, Luca, Luca – you have surprised me at times throughout the years, I’ll give you that but listen man, don’t think you’ll be the only one sitting in Hell’s front row, trust me, you’ll have plenty of company.”

“Why aren’t you taking me seriously Tommy, I’m telling you what I did, as fantastical as it sounds, is God’s honest truth – yes, pun intended, I did what I believed was the right thing to do; I’ve got plenty of religious doctrine to support my actions!”

“Well then, off to see the bishop Luca, but don’t expect him to believe you… naah, he’ll be plenty pissed you disobeyed him, just sayin’ but hey, “It’s only after we lost everything that we are free to do anything” right? – what?! – I’m kidding, I’m kidding.”

“You still don’t take me seriously, Tomassa – I know what it is I unleashed and I now know what it is I must do; believe it or not you did actually help me reach that conclusion and for that I thank you brother.” (Luca embraces his friend, each man turning to walk to opposite ends of the parking lot).

Late fall early evening slipped out of her little black dress, anticipation moistening the air as the rumble of a dual straight pipe exhaust grew louder, the throaty sound of a revving engine approaching in the near distance; checkered flag waving, the ’78 Camaro hurtled itself to embrace the body of a middle aged priest, shattered headlights collecting the soul of one Father Luca Domenico Lazarus.

Geez, thanks for that one Mr. McKee. Yet, isn’t it part of the motivation for continuing this thing we do? Are we not word alchemists? Do we not create, conjure, transform? Words into sentences. How fortunate there is an establishment to serve as laboratory in which to craft our stories – 6 sentences at a time. I speak of the ever trending blog hop, Six Sentence Stories. Each Sunday a prompt word is given and each week, beginning Wednesday evening, we are asked to link our story or poem or scene, next serial installment or “soc”, then allow our magic to work its way around the globe. Stories that reach for our readers’ hands; guides them from the present moment to somewhere else. We hope you’ll join us, one and all.

Rules of the hop:
Write 6 Sentences. No more. No less.

Sunday’s Six Sentence Story Word Prompt!

Welcome to GirlieOnTheEdge and Sunday’s prompt word reveal for Six Sentence Stories!
What is it about the end of the Gregorian calendar year it looms larger than an outsized Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloon? I imagine the feeling is similar for those who celebrate the “New Year” during different calendar months. There’s a beginning; there’s an end. The emotional content attached (feel about it) is different for each of us. As fate would have it, this edition of SSS straddles both the outgoing year and the incoming year. How perfect is that?! Let us end/begin the year writing precisely 6 sentences. The menu at this establishment is à la carte therefore, 6 sentences may be offered as fantasy or fiction, humor or self reflection, perhaps a splash of mystery or mayhem, historical semi-fiction, poetry, or soc. Creative expression. We have it. Let’s share it.

Rules of the hop:
Write 6 Sentences. No more. No less.
Use the current week’s prompt word.
Link up at Wednesday’s post. Link goes live at 6:00 pm through Saturday late…

PROMPT WORDCHARM

The arrangement of the words matters, and the arrangement you want can be found in the picture in your mind. The picture dictates the arrangement. The picture dictates whether this will be a sentence with or without clauses, a sentence that ends hard or a dying-fall sentence, long or short, active or passive.” – Joan Didion

At Diner’s Edge. It’s a 6.

Twilight – a time of power and possibility when daylight has yet to cease, it’s ebb still hovering horizon’s edge; darkness has yet to fully unfurl its cloak, it is a time worthy of Mr. Dalí’s brush.

At 6 foot two, Tomassa “Tommy” Bianchi towered over Fr. Luca Lazarus; reaching around to the right of his old friend from seminary school, he pushed open the silver framed door of the Juke Box Diner, the small bell attached to the door tinkling, a sacristy bell announcing their departure into the dwindling day.

“Listen Luca, I  don’t disbelieve all you’ve told me but like the biblical Thomas, I’ve doubt in your conclusion you opened a door – no, wait – let me finish – sure, I believe in spiritual realms, other dimensions, whatever you want to call them; I acknowledge if one believes in the existence of God, there must also exist its antithesis, a not God, but tell me again what about the exorcism of this man, Luis, has you convinced you invited Satan himself into the world, to be fair, isn’t the state of the world sufficient evidence evil already reigns the earth?”

What, Tommy?… instinct, physical reaction. My interaction with Luis post exorcism, while brief was for lack of a better term, otherworldly, there wasn’t any sense of feeling good for having driven an evil spirit from this man’s body, and Luis’s wife Maria – I saw the doubt creep into her eyes as soon as her husband began to speak, doubt that quickly turned to panicked fear. If I did what I’m convinced I did, reserve a seat for me in hell because dear friend, there is more to this story.”

I began writing this post yesterday, December 21, 2021 because it was the best day. No, not because it is officially winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Writing a Six Sentence Story. Exercise, adventure, social event. It’s all here. And more. Please join us this week in writing and sharing 6 and only 6 sentences of fantasy, fiction, mystery, poetry or the next installment in your serial story. Got to run. Enjoy C & H. Welcome to GirlieOnTheEdge and Sunday’s prompt word reveal for Six Sentence Stories!
It is often a hectic time, end of the year. There are celebrations and events taking place across our planet. It is an event we all share in common – the conclusion of another 12 months of life. And the closer we get to the last day of the last month, we often ask the question – “How can I/we make the approaching year different? How can we shake things up a bit? In My Image. It’s a 6.

Father came to me this morning, dilated pupils telling me more about the night he’d had than words could offer; distress making torn telltales of his posture, he seemed old

“In the most important ways, you are my child; coming to you for assistance feels peculiar. And yet, bound with guilt meticulously groomed by advancing years, I seek your counsel.

Weary as I am of my self; forced to acknowledge doubt no longer lies fallow in youth-filled fields, I gaze into your eyes finding there more than advanced nanotechnology – I find myself and the fear of leaving you, lessens.

They scoffed, decrying my talent as long buried beneath a junk heap of discarded, fading and failed talent but you! child of science and genius and technology, you proffer the future’s perfect platform, the dream of self creation, self evolution, self actualization.

*soft sigh* Time reaches to take my hand, so I must step aside, step aside for a new generation to connect, to connect, to connect, to con…”

Sunday’s Six Sentence Story Word Prompt!

Welcome to GirlieOnTheEdge and Sunday’s prompt word reveal for Six Sentence Stories!
Here we go. I’m way late in publishing this post. Perhaps I’m suffering from reverse osmosis temporal displacement!?! (what was in my morning coffee!) Though I be stuck in a bit of mud at the moment, runaway train appears to be what this day’s about. To that end I shall delay no longer. May I present the prompt word for this week’s edition of Six Sentence Stories. The challenge: to write a story, a poem, the next scene from a work in progress, a slice of “soc” otherwise known as stream of consciousness, or perhaps a memoir-ette. Write your piece in 6 and only 6 sentences, return here midweek, link and experience an enjoyable few days of wandering worlds. The rewards of doing so? Well, guess you’ll have to discover those for yourself. Have an enjoyable, productive week!

PROMPT WORD:  JUNK

The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possible can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.” – Kurt Vonnegut
