A trip and it’s trappings. It’s a 6.

Driving the September sunbaked blacktop, CD changer loaded – James, Jimi, Joey.. Stevie, Glen and Bowie, a journey brief and not unspecific, the weight of the everyday soon fell away, crumbling like saltine crackers into a bowl of tomato soup.

An hour into the trip, cloudless blue blanket of sky draped softly overhead, the miles melded with the music as it filled the compartment suspending time and space. The terminus of the trip was a haven of sorts from all that was, if not for a brief moment, reality made elastic by stepping through a doorway into the past. Birthdays and visits and life under lock and key, the latter loosed yet not all of us free. Restrictions rule, limitations in place, what once might have been no longer has the option to be what it should have been.

Driving the September sunbaked blacktop, CD changer loaded – Anthony, Bono, Brent.. Michael, Zack and Bruce, a journey complete and not without resolve, wish and will hung heavy as a deep sea fish haul as music filled the compartment under a cloudless blue blanket sky.

WOW-Good 6, Denise–here’s my fave part: “the weight of the everyday soon fell away, crumbling like saltine crackers into a bowl of tomato soup”. LOVE IT!!

      Thanks, Z & Z 😀
Don’t ask me why that image (from childhood) came into my head, lol…oh, wait – makes sense now 🙂

Totally, Frank. Something about hitting the road with nary a glance in the rearview mirror 🙂

Sometimes all you need is music and a Mercury. Well done and love the music 🎶

Absolutely. As a matter of fact, the car before the one I now drive, was a Mercury and saw a few good road trips in her day.
Thank you, Lisa. And glad you enjoyed the music. One of my favorites and surely “mood” music 😀

roadtrips. surely the most perfect of realties, physical comfort favorite music and the world around it all constantly changing…the better to not avoid its requirements and demands, at least for as long as the journey takes.

Absolutely! It is a unique opportunity to engage in a natural suspension of everything.

Like the full circle, how you bookended with the first and last paragraphs. And yes, loading that cd changer is so critical to any road trip.

Thanks, D. Seemed to make sense (mine was a quick trip up north). Yup. Got to have it!

This was so relaxing to read. I felt like I was taking that trip. Thank you for taking along for the ride.
“Reality made elastic” – Love that
I liked the image of the crackers crumbling into the tomato soup too, only I put my own twist on this scene. For some reason, I saw the image as one of those slow motion scenes, where after a few miles the last crumble slipped into the soup.
    Excellent SSS!

I’m glad you found it relaxing, Pat. Surprisingly, it was a relaxing trip. (this time at least – 95 north is not typically a relaxing kind of drive, lol)
I like your slow motion scene 🙂
      Thank you, Pat!
