Harriet looked over at Bernard, love revealing his rough edges, the slow deterioration of age that, up until now, she refused to see; in her most soothing voice she said…”Bernard, listen to me – even if we’re both facing death, everyone knows it will be painless, instantaneous.”

Bernard clung to Harriet, she to her Bernard; in their final moments, each felt a gentle lifting upwards followed by a sensation of sudden free-fall and in seconds dissolved into black oblivion as one.
