I Hit the Trifecta. Here. At the Edge

Surely, I have. How? By participating.

“Come on…you’re talking the virtual world, not the real world!”

Your point? I never imagined when I launched GirlieOnTheEdge so many years ago, the riches that were waiting to be collected.

“Riches?! As in for free?”

Yes/No. Nothing in life is free. The ticket of life got us into this show/onto this ride/into this game. The rest – well, the rest is up to us. The price paid exacted in direct proportion to effort/drive and desire. Agreed?

Um…I don’t know….is that a trick question?”

No tricks, my friend. Never. Misdirection on occaision, but no tricks. LOL  What was that? Speak up, don’t be afraid. I’m not going to bite!

“The Trifecta thing, tell me about it.”

Life, Love and the Pursuit of Happiness.

“Pfww. Go on! How can a blog give you all that?”

It’s not the blog itself, it’s what manifests because of the blog. Because of the people who visit, who participate. It’s me when I respond and participate. It’s about being present. It’s about exchange. It’s about growth/understanding.

What’s to understand? People write stuff, you comment, they comment. What’s the big deal?”

The big deal, friend, is that there’s an entire planet of people with whom to share and exchange. People who can teach you things and in turn learn from you. It’s a community without judgement. A community that fosters participation on a scale we older folks have never seen. No pretense. Simple. Honest.

“Get the f out of town! You can’t seriously think that? It’s the virtual world, man. People like it ‘cuz they can pretend to be someone else, there’s no accountability ‘cuz no one’s ‘real’.”

Wow. What a narrow, sad view. In the spirit of full disclosure (‘cuz that’s what I decided 5 minutes ago, that this year was gonna be about) I’m going to tell you a secret. To quote me (and the famous person (got to be one) who first expressed it You gotta give a little to get a little (or something along those lines).

I’m participating in Lizzi’s (she’s one of those real, virtual people you’re so cynical about)Ten Things of Thankful Bloghop. To be honest, I’m in a bit of a hurry. See, I read a couple of TToT posts this morning and I can’t wait to try and read all of them. Eager to read what’s happening, near, far, clear across the other side of the planet, with folks I’m slowly getting to know. (I’m a clark, whadya want lol) And if you wanted me to fully disclose my feelings about all these folks, I’d say simply, sometimes I get intimidated.

“Whadya mean? What’s so intimidating about reading what someone did over the holidays? Or about someone quitting their job or getting fired or having a baby or wanting to have a baby or dealing with disease, aging parents, learning disabilities, homelessness, divorce. What’s so special about reading about any of that stuff?”

*Sigh* It’s life my friend. It’s what goes on around us every day. In the blogosphere, opportunity is limitless. To be part of the creative process, to be supportive, offer encouragement, commiserate, empathize. It is not only cathartic, it is a platform for identification. It opens the door to privilege. The privilege to share in another’s life, their accomplishments, their losses, their challenges, their dreams.

“Wow, when you put it like that, it is intimidating! Where do I start 🙂

P.S. If I can quote Lisa, from her TToT today at The Meaning of Me …. “That’s it for me, friends. I’m certain that I’ve hit ten in there…”

Very true words my friend. ..if you had told me I would still be blogging and feeling as I do anout fellow bloggers I may have insinuated that you were just a bit “off.”

I’m ‘off’, but I’m glad that you would have been wrong to insinuate it 🙂

…now why do I think, zoe, that the choices of words might be a bit more colorful than ‘off’? (oh wait! it just hit me, ‘off’ used as a suffix! ok, that makes more sense!) lol

yeah but then you would have to include the words “of a……. off.” before it… yknow?

Hey, holy hell – I got quoted there! That totally took me by surprise! I’m reading reading reading…whoa, that was me! 😀
In a million years I would never have guessed that I’d make so many wonderful connections and new friends through blogging. And now I consider these people some of the best I know. If someone had told me that, I would have thought they were nuts.
I can relate to your bit about feeling intimidated. I think I always feel just a bit intimidated by the “cool kids” out there and wonder how in the hell I have any business playing with them. Starting to understand this Clark-ish-ness much more lately. Funny, though, that we can be intimidated by others who then, in turn, feel intimidated by us. It all goes around…

      Your smile makes me smile:)
I couldn’t have said it any better! It does all go around Lisa:) The best thing is realizing that “intimidating” somehow connects to encouraging. At least for me. I read other people’s blogs and think “wow, that was so good”, or “geez, he/she is such a great writer!” or “where do they come up with those ideas?!”and for awhile think about how I’m not. But then I realize we’re all in the same boat at one point or another. Might as well set sail and see what we can see:)

Did that make sense? On the cusp of getting sick. I’m almost to the point of giving in but not yet. Now is when the brain synapses start to sputter….won’t be long. Damn.

This is why I stick with it. Hey, what can I say, I’m addicted. To the friendships. The camaraderie. The inspiration. The feedback. Encouragement. And the desire to just WRITE. God, I love it. I love, love, love it.
What happens out there doesn’t happen here. It’s a nice place, here. A place where everything’s just warm and fuzzy!
PS – going to call in tonight. We’re meeting up with family (as is often the case on Saturday evenings) so when/if I do (I really wanna!) it’s probably going to be around 8:20 or 8:30…

We’re all grateful (let me speak for everyone lol) you “stick with it”. You’ve got talent and a creativity and if you didn’t “stick with it” you’d be depriving all of us of your unique creative drive:)

Hope you can call in tonight. You know they are always welcome to chat as well:) We’ll hold the lines open for you!

P.S. See response to Lisa (about making sense lol). Germs. They be beating at the fortress doors. I will. Not. Let. Them. In.

It is amazing the number of people one can meet blogging, isn’t it? The world shrinks, and the circle of friends grows.

    What Cyndi said.

Bless you for thinking I’m ‘real’ 🙂 Remember I’m highly self-edited…

BUT on the other hand…everything you said, and isn’t it WONDERFUL 😀 (and terrifying).

Well said – and agreed with much of what is said above – I love the community I’ve found through blogging – and the give and take and openness found with online friendship. It surprised me, but it is indeed very real and does make the world feel a smaller and better place.

    All the best for 2015.

We may have met online, but it was only the meeting. We are becoming more and more “real” to each other all the time. The best part is, you are all people I would never have met otherwise. We’re all from different places. Different backgrounds. We’re all different ages with different ideas and beliefs and tastes. Yet we are all friends. It’s marvelous, really.

And I got to meet you in person too! How awesome is that? Blogging has been so much more than I ever realized it would be. Truly – the people I’ve met are in some ways more real to me than some that I don’t know well at work and at other IRL places. I think we all get to know each other so well because we often write what we’d never say out loud, ya know? happy new year friend!!!

I know! How cool was that?!
Good point Kristi. There’s a sense of trust or freedom or something that allows us to express ourlselves “out here” in a way that isn’t alaways there IRL.
Good to hear from you! Be well:)

It’s kinda weird like that isn’t? The not meeting IRL but having a sense of knowing someone. Cool.

I love that! I often don’t wind up with a numbered list for TToT (or ANY list b/c I ramble on too much!) but I make up some numbered rule from the SBoR about the VALUE of 10 things being more important than the actual NUMBER. And you definitely have MORE than 10 here, my friend!
